The Adirondack chair.  Such a simple design, yet so expressive.  There are few things in modern day Americana that express the concept of relaxation as well as the Adirondack chair.  For something that started in the mountains, it found its way to the beach rather quickly.  Today, Adirondacks can be found in every city, lake, beach and back yard in the country.

 

The birth of Matthews Chair Company was based on a passion for the Adirondack Chair.  It’s founder left his job in corporate America to pursue his dream of not only working with wood, but the challenge of owning and operating a business.  The company started in the corner of an old warehouse in Collierville Tennessee with two guys and some power tools.  Much time was spent the first year perfecting designs and the manufacturing process, which is all done in the U.S.A.  Today we occupy a much larger portion of that same warehouse, and all manufacturing, finishing and shipping occurs in that facility.  Many of the curved parts, such as the rear legs of our chairs, are now cut by machine and not by hand, but for the most part our products are completely handcrafted.  Visitors are always welcome at Matthews Chair Company; we’ll show you how we make ‘em!

 

Matthews manufactures a complete line of Adirondack chairs and accessories including loveseats, tables and rocking chairs.  In 2007 we plan to add swings, balcony chairs and potting tables to our growing product line.  We use 13/16” select Cypress wood in the construction of our products.  Cypress sets the standard for outdoor applications due to its excellent decay and insect resistance.  We offer 17 different colors and finishes and will do custom colors as well.  We apply two coats of a high quality all-surface acrylic gloss enamel for solid color items.  For stains, we apply a semi-transparent waterseal/stain which provides moisture and UV protection while still allowing the beauty of the wood grain to be seen.  All of Matthews products use stainless steel bolts and dacrotized screws for excellent weather durability, even in coastal environments.  Matthews builds a rugged product with the outdoors in mind.  A Matthews chair will provide years of trouble free outdoor use.
